THERE’S NO DEBATING IT - STRENGTH ATHLETES NEED A SPECIFIC KIND OF APPROACH TO NUTRITION

Hi! I’m Dr. Kristin Lander, and I understand what it’s like to be frustrated with your nutrition as an athlete – and just a human being trying to feel healthy.

I work with strength athletes to optimize their nutrition so they can reach their fullest potential as an athlete and stay healthy in the process.

PIA MARANGONI, PN-1

Hi! I’m Pia!
In my early 30’s I was smoking 40-a-day, obese, sedentary, working crazy hours in my corporate job – and no surprise here – pre-diabetic and on a slippery slope of declining health.  I managed to kick the smoking habit, and after a brief foray into CrossFit I found powerlifting and have never looked back.

Over the last 6 years I have been fortunate to compete at world level multiple times, as well as winning multiple South African national championships and setting over 12 national records across 2 weight classes.

During this time, I became increasingly interested in nutrition, not only to move myself into a healthier body fat range, but also in looking for that extra little bit that would get me to the podium.  In addition to being a long-standing FFN client, I have completed FFN’s own nutrition coaching course, and am Precision Nutrition Level 1 Certified Coach.

HINRIK PÁLSSON

Sports have always been a big part of my life, such as weightlifting, handball, running, crossfit, skiing, MTB cycling and more. Hiking, mountains, glaciers and the outdoors are also very high on my list of favorites!

In 2017 I started training in powerlifting, partly to help me recover from some running injuries. It is safe to say that I fell in love with the sport! Over the last few years I have competed both nationally and internationally, winning multiple Icelandic national championships, setting several national records and reaching the podium at the European Masters Championships. I have been active in the sport in other ways too, serving as the VP of the Icelandic Powerlifting Federation, as a referee and being a coach/handler for the Icelandic National Powerlifting Team in international competitions such as the EPF European Championships and the IPF World Championships.

Nutrition was always something that I struggled with in my training. I was so fortunate to sign up as a client with FFN at the beginning of 2022, something that had a hugely positive effect on my progress as an athlete. I am a Working Against Gravity Certified Nutrition Coach and have completed FFN´s nutrition coaching course.

JONI VOSS

Hi!
I’m Joni (she/her). Having not grown up in a household where healthy eating and exercise were a priority, my journey with fitness and nutrition was a long one!

Like many, I wanted to be healthy, but how to get there was confusing to say the least. There is an overwhelming amount of ‘information’ out there.

Thankfully, I did find my way. I started strength training, became a NASM certified personal trainer, and found powerlifting. I also started listening to evidence based nutrition coaches and lifters. It made all the difference in the world. Nutrition wasn’t just about trying to be as small as possible anymore. It was about how my body performed and felt. I was finally comfortable taking up space.

I now have my PN1 certification, as well as my NASM CPT, CES, WFS and Pre/Post Natal through Girls Gone Strong.

I’m passionate about meeting people where they’re at helping them define their goals, and empowering them throughout their journey. See you on the strong side!

MICHELLE CARLSON

Hi, I’m Michelle. I’m a competitive powerlifter and my goal is to share my years of experience and knowledge through helping others reach their athletic potential through nutrition.

I discovered my love of being an athlete 17 years ago when I decided to start running and training for my first marathon. Initially what was just a fun event to train for, turned into passion that had me running long distances, and eventually discovering my love of being an athlete and becoming a plant-based nutrition coach.

Over the years, my athletic pursuits would expand to include yoga, climbing, hiking, and mountaineering. It is safe to say that no matter what athletic endeavor I was pursuing, I always strove to perform my best and often pursued professional coaching in my chosen sport and nutrition coaching to take my performance to the next level. It was also during this time that I turned to a plant-based diet.

In 2015, while mountaineering in the backcountry of the Pacific Northwest, I was in an accident which would be the catalyst and driving force behind my love for strength sports and sports-based nutrition. During this time, I spent countless hours in physical therapy and in the gym under a barbell working to get stronger. I learned that eating was the key to fuel my recovery to heal and get strong again. In the process, I discovered how much I loved lifting heavy weights, loved the training process, and how eating plant-based would have me performing at the highest level.

I hold a NASM Nutrition Coach Certification with a focus on plant-based nutrition. I have been vegan for 14 years. I have a B.A. In Psychology and Philosophy, a Masters Degree in Teaching, Personal Training Certification, and hold a Pain Free Performance Certification.
